What is a "Fursona"

In the Furry Fandom, some have Fursonas, characters that they create for themselves for different reasons. In my case ever since I was young I had dreams of this deer, who would follow me as I walked through a forest, or a clearing (the location doesn't matter). It became more important when I began to pray and meditate. Whenever I meditate and clear my mind I see the deer, he sits in front of me and just stares, or he stands next to me. Needless to say I have no idea what this means, but this deer has always been there for me. So I thought hey? he would make a great character because he holds personal meaning to me.
Like I said earlier, the fandom means different things to different people. I can take this deer character as far as I am comfortable with, I can simple play around as him at conventions... or I could dig deeper to find the meaning behind my eerie companion. Well I am not sure on either course of action. If this deer is a spiritual creature I want to be respectful, but I am also a fun-loving guy! So I gave him a dignified name to befit his stature... Percival. So there is born my creation, and I will likely build more onto him as I grow older.
What do you think your fursona is? Do you identify with any animal? is there a cartoon character that you created as a kid that you like? Do you find traits of certain species that appeal to you. Or are you simply interested in goofing off and finding the cutest animal to be at a con? its really up to you!

There and back again....

Since this decision has taken so many hours of my time in thought and self discovery, I decided that since the decision has been made, I should share this journey with others. Perhaps to help others along the journey, to find others to help me, or maybe to clear up some misconceptions about Furries and the fandom I am falling in love with.

This love goes back a long way, growing up I poured over the Redwall book series, for a run of four years they were the only books I would read. combined with my love of cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, and the Wily Coyote, added with the imaginative genre that is Japanese Animation it was only a matter of time before I found the Furry Fandom.

Originaly what snagged me was the beautiful anthropomorphic artwork, of course there is a more adult side, but like most genre's there always is. (which is not always a bad thing!)There is a fine line at times between a tasteful nude, and an erotic nude.

Furry means a lot of things to a lot of people, many associate the fandom with sexual deviancy. Which is a naive statement, it is not uncommon for groups of people to be bundled into one large stereotype. To me although, it means so much more. As a Furry I can express myself in ways I cannot as a human. Maybe this stems from my extreme distaste for the human species, and there are admirable qualities in animals that I would like to exhibit in my own life. Also the lure of the suit, and the alterego grows larger by the day. I can be whomever I wish, in other words, I would not be bound by first impressions.

Aside from everything else... it looks fun
